A versatile family of materials, castable polyurethane elastomers have been used to
manufacture products for a wide variety of applications.
Castable polyurethanes are elastomers. They are available in a wide range of hardnesses
and chemical compositions. They are considered to have outstanding physical properties
including toughness, tear resistance, abrasion resistance, high load bearing capability,
and good chemical resistance, to name but a few.
Most castable polyurethanes are a two component liquid system at room temperature. They
are usually processed by machine dispensing or hand mixing and pouring into an open mold.
This castability offers several advantages to a design engineer, including low mold cost
as well as the ability to produce large parts or parts with thick wall cross-sections. In
addition to open casting, these polyurethane materials may also be rotationally molded
(rotomolded),
spin cast, and reaction injection molded (RIM) for even greater processing versatility.
